As 2024 comes to a close, Caz Heise, independent candidate for Cowper, is reflecting on the feedback gathered from over 4,000 local residents in just the past two months.
"We’ve listened closely to our community, and the concerns are consistent," Caz stated.
“Residents are struggling with the rising costs of groceries, skyrocketing power bills, and the dire need for affordable housing.
“They are fed up with poor infrastructure, particularly the shocking mobile phone reception and sluggish internet speeds that hinder their daily lives.
“There’s also a clear need for improved access to health services, especially in relation to GPs, aged care, and the NDIS.”
One of the most striking revelations from the community feedback is the frustration with the traditional political establishment.
“People are disillusioned and don’t believe that politicians are acting in their best interests,” Caz explained.
“This sentiment is incredibly powerful and cannot be ignored. It underscores a desire for genuine representation and accountability.”
At the heart of the independent campaign is a remarkable community of dedicated volunteers.
“We have a growing team of around 3,000 enthusiastic supporters who are committed to making a difference in Cowper,” Ms Heise stated.
“The level of engagement and commitment is beyond what I could have imagined. We have people stepping up every day to organise different events and strategies, driven by their passion for our community and their desire for positive change. Together, we are focused on reaching out to as many voters as possible to hear their concerns and share our vision for Cowper.”
In addition to economic and health concerns, Caz has highlighted a passionate and vocal group of residents advocating for climate action.
“Many are deeply concerned about the impacts of native forest logging, and their voices need to be amplified. This is not just about immediate issues; it’s about safeguarding our environment for future generations.”
"Breaking the longstanding hold of the National Party in Cowper requires a genuine connection with the community and trust in independent representation," Caz asserted.
“My campaign is built on listening to the people, understanding their concerns, and advocating for their needs rather than corporate interests. Voters are increasingly disillusioned with traditional party politics and want to see someone who prioritises them over party loyalty."
In the past few months, the Caz4Cowper campaign has fostered community engagement through doorknocking, stalls, and volunteer training.
“I am accountable to the people of Cowper,” she said, emphasising that her approach is to make every voice heard, ensuring the community knows they are valued participants in the political process.
Caz Heise remains dedicated to advocating for the people of Cowper, and as the new year approaches, she invites all residents to join in the journey toward a brighter, more inclusive future.
