Community Independent candidate for Cowper Caz Heise has today expressed her staunch support for the elimination of domestic and family violence.
“We must dismantle the structures that perpetuate violence and ensure that survivors have access to the support and resources they desperately need.” Caz said today.
“Our critical support systems are failing to meet the overwhelming needs of those affected by domestic violence.“
Over the weekend, Caz joined hundreds for the Liberty Walk in Port Macquarie, standing in solidarity with survivors of violence against women and children and amplifying the urgent call to end this toxic issue within our society.
“Violence against women is a systemic problem that deeply affects families, communities, and the fabric of our nation. The Liberty Walk serves as a powerful reminder that we must unite to confront this crisis head-on and demand comprehensive action from our leaders.”
“We must foster a culture of courage, respect and accountability, call out bad behaviour, and demand that governments provide sufficient, long term funding to support services and advocacy bodies.”
Statements attributable to Caz Heise, Community Independent Candidate for Cowper
“We can create a society where people, in particular women and children, live lives free from fear and violence.“
“We need a response system that acts swiftly to incidents of domestic violence, ensuring that those at risk are protected, and that abusers are held accountable for their actions. The community, local organisations, and government can and must work together to combat this toxic issue.
“In support of the 16 Days of Activism Against Domestic and Family Violence, I want to recognise the work of community sector organisations including Blue Sky Community Services and Liberty Justice, whose unwavering dedication is crucial in dismantling the cycle of violence and fostering a safer future for all.
“It’s heartbreaking to know that women and children in our community are living with the reality of violence, fear and forced isolation. Support needs to be available when they need it most.
"Together at the Liberty Walk, we demonstrated that we will not remain silent. Each step taken is a step toward change, a call to action that reinforces our commitment to creating a safe environment for all women.
“I am determined to push for more funding for critical support services so that there are safe havens and long term support for survivors and their children.
“Our legal system is failing to protect women and children from violence. We need to respond to cries for help with the urgency this crisis deserves, and genuinely safeguard people from harm.
“We need to ensure that those at risk are protected and that abusers are held accountable for their actions. Justice should not be a distant dream for survivors - it should be a reality.”
